Museum Buurtspoorweg

Boekelo Station is located in Boekelo (Enschede) on the railroad line Winterswijk-Hengelo, built by the Geldersch-Overijsselsche Lokaalspoorweg-Maatschappij and opened in 1884. In 1885, the line from Boekelo to Enschede was completed. The through trains mostly went to Enschede North, so that for Hengelo one had to change trains in Boekelo.

Nowadays the station is used by the Museum Buurtspoorweg (MBS) Haaksbergen - Boekelo. This railroad belongs to the last remnants of the GOLS railroad network.

The station (of the GOLS-small type) dates from 1883 and was enlarged 1906 and 1911. The Boekelosche Steam Bleaching Company had its own railroad connection in Boekelo. From Boekelo trains departed in the direction of Haaksbergen, Hengelo and Enschede. After several extensions of the yard in 1899 and 1903, it was simplified in 1959. The station was closed for passenger traffic on October 3, 1937, and for freight traffic on May 28, 1972. It was then put into operation by the MBS. The station building is now in private hands. In recent years, the MBS has modified the yard into an island platform. A wagon shed was also built.
