A.C. ter Kuile Interlinings

A.C. ter Kuile Interlinings was founded in 1923. The company started under the name at Vlierhaar on Javastraat. Since 1928 the company has been located at Kneedweg 35 under the name A.H. Pley. In 1936, Mr. A.C. ter Kuile (son of Ben J. ter Kuile co-director of Nico ter Kuile at Lage Bothofstraat and died in 1945) became a co-founder and the name was changed to Pley-ter Kuile. In 1943 Mr. Pley left the Firma and continued as a sewing thread manufacturer at Gronausevoetpad and Mr. A.C. ter Kuile became the sole owner and the name of the firm was changed to N.V. Paardehaarweverij A.C. ter Kuile. In 1946, Mr. K.C.H. Meihuizen (1909-1988) joined the management as a fellow partner. In 1963 Mr. N.J.Meihuizen joined the company and in 1974 joined as managing director. At the end of the 60's there were very difficult times for the textile industry in Enschede and also for N.V. Paardehaarweverij A.C. ter Kuile. The clothing industry switched to adhesive inner linings which reduced the demand for the traditional hair cloths by two-thirds. In 1970 Mr. A.C. ter Kuile resigned from the management and his 50% share package was taken over by the company J.C. Biederlack & Co GmbH in Emsdetten. Jointly, the development of adhesive fabrics was started.  In 1999, J.C. Biederlack & Co GmbH sold its 50% share package to Messrs. N.J. Meihuizen and K.C.H. Meihuizen Jr.

In the early years, A.C. ter Kuile himself also spun horsehair yarn with special machines but the production of this horsehair yarn stopped in the early 1960s.

In the mid-1960s came the introduction of the sticky lining which marked a difficult time for the producers of conventional (non-sticky) hair cloth. The only Dutch producer who got through the difficult 60s and 70s was A.C. ter Kuile B.V.

Nowadays

A large part of the products we manufacture nowadays go abroad where A.C. ter Kuile has established a good reputation when it comes to quality and reliable delivery times.

Currently, A.C. ter Kuile is the last remaining weaving mill in Enschede, while in the past there were more than 30 with gigantic production capacities. These companies were among the largest in the Netherlands.

The items made are interlinings in many different designs, cloth for workwear, cloth for furniture upholstery, curtains, clothing fabrics and technical fabrics.

In cooperation with Enschede Textielstad, various articles are made with sustainable materials.

Production of the warp

The warp is made within the company to ensure constant quality and fast delivery. The warp or warp are the longitudinal threads of the weaving goods.

Weaving

In the weaving mill, modern rapier looms are set up on which many different weft yarns can be woven. Weft or weft yarns are the threads in the width direction of the weaving goods. In addition to machines with cotton warp, machines with polyester warp, wool warp viscose warp, tencel/polyester warp and linen warp are also on display. A.C. ter Kuile also has a loom with a double warp beam for making double fabrics or for weaving with different types of warp yarns.

Knitting

AC ter Kuile also has several 30-inch diameter circular knitting machines set up on which various types of knits can be made from single jersey to pické and interlock.

Inspection of the fabric

The various fabrics from the weaving mill are inspected and collected on large pallets for further processing.

Finishing

The interlinings are de-stressed, boiled off, appressed (finishing the raw fabric into a fabric suitable for use), dried and fixed to improve the properties of the cloth. The interlinings can be finished to meet the German Öko-tex 100 standard. There is close cooperation with several contract finishers in the area for other operations that cannot be done in the in-house finish.

Quality control

Before the cloth is rolled up, it is checked to ensure that it meets the requirements set by A.C. ter Kuile. Accurate measurement ensures the correct indication of the length on each roll of cloth.

Shipping

A.C. ter Kuile has a well qualified forwarding department with the ability to ship the calls quickly. Usually the same day and otherwise the next day. Daily trucks pick up goods to deliver in different European countries. Often the goods ordered are in stock and if they are not in stock it is ensured that the customer can proceed quickly.
