Benninkmolen
At the site of the present mill in the hamlet of IJzevoorde, there used to be a small stone ground-sailer, built in 1856 by B. Vels. Since the mill was in poor condition, it was demolished in 1920. The "Buursinkmolen" in Zelhem was purchased and parts of this mill were transferred to Doetinchem. The mill was placed on a new stone base as a scaffold mill in 1921. Commissioning was completed on November 16, 1921.
In the late 1970s, the mill was purchased by the municipality of Doetinchem, after which a restoration was begun. Mill builder Beckers began a very extensive restoration . However, Beckers was unable to complete this work due to serious illness. Herman Groot Wesseldijk finished it. After this restoration, the mill was put back into operation in 1980. It has become a fine example of mill construction with its cladding of shales.
Before this major renovation, the mill had jointed bolts and self-swinging on the inner rudder; the outer rudder was still made of wood. Now the mill has an English gear and a fairing: in this way the flight could be increased slightly. As a result, because otherwise the king's spindle would be too short, the spindle calf had to be raised.
The welded steel rods are the last ones that the late mill builder Guus Beckers manufactured in-house.
The mill, which initially bore the name "Velsmolen", was renamed "Benninkmolen" after the restoration in 1980. The board of the Doetinchem Windmills Foundation decided on this name change because the Bennink family has been so closely associated with this mill since its reconstruction in 1921 that it was commonly called the "Bennink Mill" or "Bennink Mill." In the Slangenburgh area it is called Benninkmölle.
The mill runs regularly with occasional grinding.
During opening hours, various kinds of ground flour, bread baking mixes , cake mixes and other natural products are for sale at the mill.
