Villa Rabe

In the middle of today's city park stood Villa B. Rawe, also known as "Haus Maate." On a city map from 1780 this area is shown as "Richter Wedekinds Wiese," later the Düll family lived here. In the memories of Karl Langen, who spent his youth in Nordhorn from 1879 to 1889, he says about the park: ".... under the tall trees grazed some peaceful deer and one big deer, his name was Hans, and he let himself be fed by us. Behind it lay so peaceful and sunlit the long, white mansion. But we still had to go to the end of the garden because there it was most beautiful, the Schneckenberg, a pointed hill, around which a narrow path ran higher and higher. "

Bernard Rawe (1864-1950) was a German merchant and entrepreneur in the textile industry. The B. Rawe & Co. concern was Nordhorn's third-largest textile company before production ceased in 2001 after bankruptcy and the company was liquidated.
