De Rosmolen
The Rosmolen was built in 1546 as an addition to and opposite the already existing - nearby - Grafelijke windmill, by order of the then owners the Counts Van Bergh. The Counts leased the complete site with tower mill after the construction of the rosmolen, and the miller used the rosmolen when there was too little wind to grind using the farmer's horse. In 1866, the mill was sold and demolished as a horsemill. In 1974, using the original construction plans preserved in the archives of the House of Bergh, the horse mill was rebuilt.
The mill is owned by the Oswaldus Guild Association. The grinding mechanism which consists of one pair of millstones is driven by a horse. The mill is part of a complete farm that operates with wind drive and horsepower combined. The mill building has external dimensions of 9.30 m by 13.55 m with a ridge height of 6.75 m. In the front wall there is a double door and a single door. Inside, the floor consists partly of estriken and partly of a loam floor sprinkled with coarse sand where the horse walks. The large comb wheel has 340 combs and has a pitch circle with an inner diameter of 7.25 m and an outer diameter of 7.29 m. The pinion has a pitch circle of 40.9 centimeters and possesses 19 rods. At a normal stride of the horse running a gait of 5 kilometers per hour, the big wheel makes 5 revolutions per minute and the stone 90. If the windmill is used, the capacity is ten times greater.
The mill exhibits a small collection of boulders gathered by a former village veterinarian, the late Dr. J. Hoogland as well as a permanent mineral collection. Art exhibitions are also held regularly. In summer, the mill is open to the public every Saturday and Sunday and is in operation. The horsemill installation is then propelled by a horse.
