Museumfabriek

ERIH-Ankerpunt De Museumfabriek

The Museum Factory has existed since 2008, formed from a merger of three institutions: Nature Museum Enschede, the Van Deinse Institute and Museum Jannink, and was called TwentseWelle until May 2018.

The Museum Factory is a family museum where the future is discovered. Through learning, playing, working, thinking, experimenting and dreaming. In the renovated museum, imagination is in power. The exhibitions inspire young and old to learn and invent, try out and put things together themselves. You can do that in the factory. The museum's historical collections are always the great inspiration. They tell stories, bring Twente's history to life, make connections to the present and provide guidance for "making the future.  So the Museum Factory is not a natural history museum, or an art museum, an antiquities museum or a technology museum. The Museum Factory is all of these and all at the same time. The Museum Factory is the academy of imagination.

Twente's cultural-historical heritage has been linked to its natural-historical heritage since the merger. The Museum Factory was built in the Roombeek district, in the remnants of the "Rozendaal complex," a former textile factory. This culture cluster building, which also houses artists and 21Rozendaal contemporary art, was designed by Bjarne Mastenbroek of SeARCH Architects of Amsterdam. The Museum Factory is located on the so-called culture mile in Enschede, the route that connects the downtown Muziekkwartier with the culture complex in Roombeek.
